SPRING FISHING ON FORK 2011

Posted on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in Fishing Reports

–SPRING FISHING ON FORK–

It’s finally here. Spring on Lake Fork has finally arrived and great fishing has been going on for several weeks now and is getting better. As I write this report on March 15 we are a few days away from a full moon which means a huge wave of fish should hit the banks in the next few days for spawning activities. Today I saw several fish on beds in 57 degree water and we have a forecast of 80 degree days coming up so the next few weeks should be great. This past Sunday we had our first Share-A-Lunker bass caught and she weighed 14.25 lbs. and was caught on a lizard and there could be more caught this week with the full moon coming.

Fishing has been pretty good most days depending on weather. Most days I have been catching 15-25 per day with usually several in the 6 lb range being common. Lately most bass for me have come from the main lake on suspending jerkbaits. Normally I throw the chrome/blue on sunny days and gold/black on cloudy days. The whole key to the jerkbait is finding the key depth and retrieve speed. Most of the time a 3 twitch and about a 10 second pause is the best technique but you just never know. Sometimes they want you to move it very aggressive and that will trigger a reaction strike.

Other techniques are working as well. Spinnerbaits and lizards are also working in the creeks especially in the more stained water. Most of the creeks are very dirty now since we have no hydrilla to filter out the water.

I have no availability left in March but in April I have the 4th and 28th still open. May is pretty full but here are the May dates I currently have available. May 1,5,6,8,9,15,16,17,20,23,24,25,26,29 and June is fairly open right now to. If I can be of any help call me anytime at (903)780-0680. By the way I still have my 2010 Skeeter FX for sale for what I feel is a good price. This boat needs to sell ASAP.

Lake Fork Report 2011

Posted on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 in Fishing Reports

Guys

Hope you guys are getting cabin fever and getting ready to do some fishing.  The past few weeks have been pretty cold but the bass have been fairly cooperative.  As of yesterday 1-25-2011 most of the lake was 43-45 degrees.  Normally it’s hard to even get a bite when it’s that cold but we ended up catching 11 bass up to 7 lbs.  Eight of the fish were caught on jigs the others were caught on rattle baits.  Our lake level as of now is about 3.5 feet low and if we continue not to get any rain we should have a great prespawn.  Right now with the lake low fish are grouped on the channels and little sloughs and drains which make for some great jig and spinnerbait fishing.  If we can catch 10 -15 fish a day now when the water is this cold I can only imagine what it will be like when the water gets in the 50s.

Most of our largest bass of the year are caught from now thru March.  If you want to try some prespawn action from now thru the first of March give me a shout.  February is a great month for that and I have some days available then.  If you still want a spring trip I still have a few days left in March and April but call quick because they are going fast.

Bass Wishes

Lake Fork Report 12-2010

Posted on Sunday, December 5, 2010 in Fishing Reports

I hope everyone enjoyed Thanksgiving last week with friends and family. I know we did. Brook and I have so much to be thankful for. Fishing this past fall has been good most days. The lake level has been about 3 feet low all fall which is unusual for the first part of December. Normally by now we are starting to get some winter time rains which brings the lake up. However, I like a low lake this time of year. It groups fish up in certain places where they may not be under normal lake levels. As of yesterday the water temps were in the low 50′s on the north end of the lake and upper 50′s on the south end. With the low lake levels I speak of I have certainly been doing a lot of jig fishing. I have recently had some good size on the jig around creek channels and little sloughs and drains in 3-10 feet of water. I have pretty much stayed with either a 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz jig in either some sort of camo color or black/blue with matching trailer. Other baits that are working good in these places are square-billed crankbaits and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits. Deep water fishing has been good as well. I have had some great days out deep this past month but also had some days I just couldn’t seem to find them out there. As most of you know on Fork deep water fishing is so much of a timing game. There have been several times recently I have pulled up to a deep spot and caught 10-15 fish over 5 lbs and never moved the boat and that’s a blast. The deep water bite should remain good for about another month before they start the prespawn stage. For the deep bass I have done the best lately on a 1/2 oz spoon. However, I have caught fish on tail spinners, drop shots, and swimbaits. The best depths for me lately have been 25-32 deep. As for the crappie, the bite has been a little slower than usual. However, that is starting to change. We have had a warmer than normal fall so the crappie have been later than normal grouping up out in the deep water. This past week the crappie fishing has improved though with more and more limits being caught. I have days open this month if anyone is interested in either bass or crappie. Even if it’s a spurt of the moment decision to go fishing don’t hesitate to call my cell (903)780-0680. Keep in mind I also have Christmas Gift Certificates available if anyone is interested. Spring will be here before we know it if you would like to book a spring trip for 2011 call me or email me the dates you have in mind. Here are a couple of pics and I even included a picture of crappie being fried. Happy Holidays Brooks
